Separate control, alarm, and monitoring
Environmental chamber control and monitoring are related but separate functions. Define what the controller must do, what conditions the program must independently observe, which alarms require action, how data will be retained, and which optional hardware or remote-access functions are needed.
Draw three lanes before choosing hardware: what operates the room, what detects and communicates an abnormal condition, and what records or independently monitors the program. One device may support more than one lane, but the responsibilities should remain explicit.
Then assign the response path. An alarm has limited value until the project identifies the limit, delay, recipient, acknowledgement method, escalation path, and action expected outside normal hours.

Write a function matrix
List each required function and assign it to the chamber controller, optional accessory, facility system, or independent program instrument. This prevents assumptions during quoting.

Design the alarm response
Define limits, delays, recipients, acknowledgment, escalation, and action. Alarm hardware is useful only when connected to a maintained response procedure.
